Tuberculosis Results 2011

131,407 new TB patients (for all types) registered for treatment
26,230 TB patients under 15 years were diagnosed and registered for treatment
42,093 new TB cases detected through sputum examination
35,867 new TB cases found through sputum examination were successfully treated
21,657 number of community based referrals of TB suspected cases to health facilities
8,945 TB patients tested for HIV
352 people were treated for multi-drug resistant TB (MDR-TB)

During 2011, 3DF funded nine implementing partners to continue working on their existing tuberculosis activities until either end of August or end 2011 according to their critical needs after inception of the Global Fund round 9 implementation for same projects. Preventive, diagnostic and treatment services were supported both at health facility and at community levels. Seven partners finished their project implementation in 2011. Following analysis conducted by 3DF on TB related gaps for 2011, four implementing partners received additional funding to cover nutritional support, patient’s support costs, ‘DOTS plus’ providers for multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) patients, TB diagnosis and treatment for injecting drug users, and community case finding.
